We Run a Homestay. The Software Didn't Exist. So We Built It.
MyHomestay.ai was born from a real problem. Three professionals — from technology, marketing, and the travel industry — who also run their own homestay properties, couldn't find software that understood how independent hospitality works in India. So they built it themselves.
The Problem
What Running a Homestay Actually Looks Like
Every morning started the same way. Check WhatsApp for booking inquiries. Open the paper register to see who's checking in. Update the Excel sheet for payments. Manually calculate GST. Send a confirmation message. Hope we didn't double-book the room that was also listed on Booking.com.
OTAs took 15-25% of every booking — that's ₹1.5-5 lakh per year for a typical 5-room property, gone in commissions. Enterprise PMS software existed, but it was built for 500-room hotel chains and priced at ₹50,000-2,00,000/year. Nothing understood our reality: UPI payments, WhatsApp-first communication, GST invoicing, police verification, seasonal pricing for Indian festivals.
One peak-season weekend, we double-booked our best room. A family had driven hours to reach us. We had to turn them away. That was the moment we decided to stop waiting for someone else to solve this problem.
